MEET THE ARTIST

Abigail Williams

In a range of work from life drawings and plein air painting to embroidery, wood carvings, and enameling, Abigail Williams explores the balance between conceptual understanding and creative storytelling: tracing the boundaries of accuracy and efficiency, detail and implication, function and tradition. Her most recognizable works are her nude gesture drawings in graphite and charcoal. Since the beginning of her practice, Abigail has sought to cultivate a close familiarity with her subjects, as well as with the expressive properties of the artistic mediums available to her. Born at the turn of the century in Massachusetts, Abigail Williams has taught herself to work in graphite, ink, clay, wood, enamel, and paint. Since 2013, the artist has studied East Asian calligraphy both domestically and abroad, with a B.A. in East Asian Languages and Arts which included brush-and-ink studies at Ewha Womans University [sic] in South Korea, and both Dalian Institute of Technology and Harbin Institute of Technology in China. Since 2016, the artist has displayed throughout the New England area, from private collections to public events and galleries. As of 2021, the artist has appeared yearly at Ogunquit, ME’s annual “Perkins Cove Plein Air Painting” competition, winning honorable mention that same year. In 2024, she was invited to join Ogunquit’s first “BonAire!” event as an oil painting demonstration artist. She has also led a variety of fine arts classes over the years, from introductory drawing lessons to highly-specialized private instruction sessions. She currently offers classes at Prescott Community Center in Groton, MA
